Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics (IGD)

Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics (IGD) has a staff of 180 employees. Central tasks of IGD are the development of products (hardware and software), concepts, models and implementations for computer graphics and user interfaces. The work is complemented by goal oriented basic research and the implementation of prototype devices and computer graphics systems with pilot character. The R&D projects of IGD always have a direct relationship to actual needs in industry, commerce, logistics and service. The departments of the institute have a multitude of core competencies that enable them to carry out the customer projects. Besides the institute in Darmstadt there are independent institute parts located in Rostock, Singapur and Graz under overall leadership by Prof. Dr. techn. Dieter W. Fellner. The preparatory work of the IGD departments involved in the project include work in the field of wireless sensor networks with direct application in the fields of health prevention from European IP WASP and work in the field of reference architectures for AAL application from the European IP projects universAAL and PERSONA, and the STREP project Genesys. The focal point of the deparment Interactive Multimedia Appliances are AAL developments from conceptual level (MEG-AAL 2015), methodological level to implementation in actual AAL applications (EU-AAL CCE, EU-IST PERSONA and EU-IST universAAL).
